West Kilbride Village Gala 2009 a great day and a sunny, happy success!

With the exception of a brief shower as the parade was making its way down Kirkton Glen, our gala was held in glorious sunshine and turned out to be a brilliant day.

The parade started at the station and was led through the streets by the Isle of Cumbrae Royal Pipe Band all the way to the gala terrain.

West Kilbride's Citizen of the Year Pat Anslow was the 2009 Gala Celebrity and she crowned Gala Queen Hannah Rintoul. Last year's Gala Queen, Amanda Laud, handed over the Crown and Sceptre. The rest of the royal party was made up of Attendants Miread Mirlees and Laura Milligan, Flower Girls Hailie McCrie and Rachel McGill and Pageboy Cameron McBride.

The top awards in the Fancy Dress Competition went to 'Bagpipes', 'Fran & Anna' and 'Porridge Oats', with wee 'Rab C. Nesbitt' and the family who came as 'Haggis, Neeps and Tatties' putting a smile on many faces too!

Jacqueline Wilson from the hardworking Gala Committee was delighted with how everything turned out, especially the way families made use of the £5 wristbands for the fun equipment.

A big THANK YOU to all who helped make the Gala possible this year. To everyone who helped manually and financially - we could not have done it without you.
