About Angharad

Angharad graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2003 with a BA (Hons) First Class Textile Design: Weave after which she went on to complete the MA Constructed Textiles: Weave course at the Royal College of Art in 2006.

“Having trained on the NESTA Starter for 6 business innovation course in 2008, I’ve been operating as a self-employed crafts-based textile designer for over 3 years working on freelance commission based projects for clients such as Mother of Pearl fashion (London), Shetland Museum and most recently ‘Scotland Can Make It’- a collaboration between myself, Emlyn Firth (a graphic designer) and Johnstons of Elgin to design and make alternative Scottish-made souvenirs for the Commonwealth Games, 2014.

I also design and create my own signature range of textile products which are woven in UK textile mills and sold internationally. The inspiration for my own designs comes from my passion for sports and activities as well as a cultural and historical interest in traditional textiles. I’m a keen swimmer, hill-walker, cyclist, windsurfer and am currently training to run in ‘Speed of Light’, an event in the Edinburgh Festival combining “sporting endeavour with performance visual art” (NVA, 2012).

I’ve taught weave, professional practice and employability at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee for the past 2 years and have experience holding workshops in craft, inspiration and design for adults and school pupils during my residency in Shetland in 2007 when the Curriculum for Excellence was first being introduced. I’m also a mentor on the NESTA Starter for 6 course and taught windsurfing on a beach in Greece during my students years.”
