Get ready for West Kilbride's Scarecrow Festival
2 JulyScotland's Scarecrow Festival is returning to West Kilbride for the 7th time on Saturday 31st July.
There will be competitions for best scarecrows for residents, local organisations and businesses, and Scarecrow-on-a-Stick competitions for children. For practical advice, there will be a Scarecrow Workshop for young and old in the week before, which STV's "The Hour" show are planning to film. West Kilbride residents and their children who are interested in taking part should contact wkscarecrowgrp@btinternet.com .
A parade with bands and floats will set off from the train station at 1:30 pm and lead the entrants for the Scarecrow-on-a-Stick competition through the Village to the Community Centre, where a wide range of entertainments, stalls and snacks will be provided. In addition, the Village Hall will be providing cream teas.
A Festival Booklet with £100 prize draw, competition entry forms and Scarecrow-on-a-Stick kits are available in local shops displaying the Scarecrow logo. There will also be a raffle for a beautiful quilt donated by local quilt maker Pauline Turner. New for this year are Scarecrow T-shirts, available from Trim-U hairdressers and the Initiative Shop. Ones printed with your own name can be ordered.
As usual, the Festival closes with a ceilidh on Saturday 7th August in the Village Hall, where the winner of the £100 prize will be drawn.
The smooth running of the parade and activities at the Community Centre relies in part on volunteers, e.g. to act as stewards and man stalls. If you are willing to offer help in any way, please contact the Committee on wkscarecrowgrp@btinternet.com
