" Sickened Scarecrow!!!!"

by libby henry

After a recent fire which has left the dental surgery closed for more than 3 months we decided to get involved & decorate our boarded up front door with a scarecrow, not just to join in with the community spirit but also to make it look better when the parade & visitors were going through the village.

It was to my absolute disgust that i found this morning that someone had removed the scarecrow's white coat from the door!!!!

Even though i'm shocked i shouldn't really have been surprised as there seems to be a small minority in the village who seem unable to leave anything alone & feel the need to destroy anything that may improve the general look of the village.

Afterall we are well aware of this since the dental surgery & the butchers have both been closed for months due to a recent fire at the back of the building, which was also caused by an act of careless vandalism.

I cannot therefore understand why some members of some commitees still feel there is no need for cctv cameras in the village. At a meeting in the village only a few weeks before the fire, one shopkeeper offered to upkeep a camera close to their shop, onlt to be told  that the village has no need for cctv!!!!

This scarecrow "incinent" has left me feeling really sad, why couldn't it just have been left alone?  It's not as if a white coat with patches drawn on it & "back soon!!!!" written accross the front is of any use to anyone anyway!!!!

This is pretty bad.  I do personally do not have an issue with CCTV cameras around the main street and at the Spar, particularly as we do not have a local police office and would help to deter some vandals which is happening whether people want to believe it or not.
