Scarecrow Festival

West Kilbride Scotland's Scarecrow Festival Saturday 26 July- Saturday 2nd August 2008

The Fun Event of the Year where Everyone wears a Smile!

The week long festival begins with the opening Parade on Saturday 26th, at 1pm from West Kilbride train station down to Kirtonhall Glen, where the fun really starts!

The event in the Glen promises to be a real cracker this year with many more local groups & organisations participating, and includes a craft fair for the first time. Details on how you can take part in this popular event can be obtained from Angela Sewell at 1girldog@googlemail.com

For the first time ever, this year's main Scarecrow Competition has a theme, 'Movie Magic'. The competition is again divided into 3 categories, business, community groups, & family entrants, however this year it was decided not to produce the usual Scarecrow Handbook but rather split this into three separate parts.

1) A full colour Souvenir Brochure is being prepared in celebration of the fifth year of the event and this will be available for sale at the beginning of July.

2) The Competition Entry forms are being redesigned and will be available to all who want to compete.

3) Finally a small booklet entitled 'Scarecrow Tips' is being made available free to anyone who needs it. Again these will be available from Initiative Centre in June.

The special children's successful 'Scarecrow on a Stick' competition will also carry the same theme 'Movie Magic' and Scarecrow stick packs will be available from the West Kilbride Initiative shop from Early June at a cost of 50p.

Activity programmes for children and all the other events will be listed in an Events Programme which will be available free from Initiative Centre prior to the Festival.

The festival closes with a Ceilidh which will be held on Saturday 2nd August, in the Village Hall, doors open at 7pm. Last years Ceilidh was a sell out, and it is recommended you purchase tickets prior to the event. Ticket prices are: Adults £5 Children £2, this will include a pie & beans supper for adults & sausage roll supper for children.

The organisers would welcome any support, it take a significant amount of time & commitment to ensure the festival runs smoothly and if anyone can offer any help or would like to join the organising group please contact Daphne Purves (Chair) on 01294 823 616 or Bob McGregor (Sec) 07940 302 828.
