West Kilbride Scarecrow Festival
Thank you to everyone who came along to the Scarecrow Festival opening event on Saturday afternoon. Wasn’t it a fantastic afternoon? And an extra special thank you to whoever arranged the glorious weather!
Don’t forget that Festival events continue throughout the week, ending with the SCARECROW CEILIDH on Saturday 1st August in the Village Hall. Come and celebrate the end of the Scarecrow Festival in traditional West Kilbride style with music, dancing, food and the prize-winners presentation. Tickets are available from The Initiative Shop and Pat's at a cost of £6 for adults, £2 for children and £14 for a family (max 2 adults & 2 kids).
As well as the ceilidh there are KIDS CRAFT ACTIVITIES in the Village Hall on Wednesday and Friday mornings, 10am- midday. Sessions are suitable for 8-12 year olds and cost £3 per child. No need to book. Teas & coffees are available for parents & carers during the sessions, so you can chat while your children create!
On Wednesday afternoon the SCOTTISH WILDLIFE TRUST are organising a bug hunt in Kirkton Glen. Meet in the Glen by the first bridge (the one nearest to the playground) at 2pm. All welcome.
You can also take part in the SCARECROW TRAILS throughout the week. There are two trails, one for younger children and one for older children and adults. Entry forms are available from The Initiative Shop (or from the Village Hall during the craft sessions) and a prize will be awarded at the end of the week for the best entry.
Don’t forget that The Initiative Shop is still stocking Scarecrow-themed goodies including quality re-usable shopping bags, badges, pencils and ready-made mini scarecrows. You can also view and buy raffle tickets for the beautiful windmill-themed quilt, made and donated by West Kilbride resident Pauline Turner. The raffle will be drawn at the ceilidh on Saturday.
By next week all scarecrows will be disappearing for another year, so enjoy them while you can!
